Fantastic news for Nicola Wilson! Nicola has been called up to join this year’s Equestrian Team GBR Senior Eventing Squad along with Harry Meade. This follows the withdrawal of Pippa Funnell with Billy Beware and Izzy Taylor with Allercombe Ellie ahead of this year’s Alltech FEI World Equestrian Games later this month.
Nicola commented on her selection: “I was devastated to hear about both Izzy Taylor and Pippa Funnell having to withdraw their horses from the squad. The build up to WEG this year really has been so difficult for everyone involved with the team”.
Nicola will be competing on Annie Clover, owned by her parents Mary and Barry Tweddle.
"I am delighted that Annie Clover has been selected to go to WEG'' said Nicola, ''she is a horse that my mum bought as a 4yr old and I have always thought so much of her. She is still only a young horse (10yrs) but we have a strong partnership built up over the last 6 years and she has been so consistent in all of her Three Day Events to date. She has always appeared to be a cool customer under pressure and take each level in her stride so I am sure she will give her all at WEG, as I will. I am especially thrilled for my mum and dad - owners of Annie, who have been so influential and supportive throughout my career”.
“It will of course be a very different experience going to a Championship without Dodi [her former team ride Opposition Buzz, who has now been retired from three day events] but as with him, I have built up a really strong relationship with Annie Clover and am very proud that we (my home team) have produced another horse to this level. I would like to thank my whole support team, loyal owners of all my horses, sponsors, UK Sport, British Eventing and the British Equestrian Federation for helping me for fulfill my dream”.
“Fingers tightly crossed that the next few weeks go smoothly and we can go out and do everyone proud.”
The full team supported by the UK Sport National Lottery funded World Class Programme (in alphabetical order) Tina Cook, 43 (De Novo News), William Fox-Pitt, 45 (Chilli Morning), Harry Meade, 30 (Wild Lone), Zara Phillips, 33 (High Kingdom), Oliver Townend, 31 (Black Tie II) and Nicola Wilson, 37 (Annie Clover).
